Engineers Day

Engineers Day 2019:- The engineering community across India celebrates Engineer’s Day every year on September 15, in honor of the greatest Indian engineer, Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. He was the most prominent civil engineer in India in the 20th century.

Engineer’s Day 2019

The year 2019 will mark the 51st anniversary of the Engineers Day in India and 158th birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya. It will be celebrated on 15 September, Sunday.

Why are we celebrating Engineer’s Day?

Famous country engineer Mokshagundam Visheshwaraya celebrates his birthday today. To honor him, this day is celebrated throughout the country. In 1995, the country’s most prestigious award for Mokshagundam was awarded to Bharat Ratna. Mokshagundam is very involved in the successful dam, bridge and drinking water program of many rivers in the country. As a result, the problem of water in the country has been solved.

Mokshagundam has made a name in many fields but has made a significant contribution to education and engineering. Mokshagundam was often preoccupied with issues such as illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment. During his term in Mysore, the number of schools increased from 4,500 to 10,500.

At the same time, he opened several agricultural, technical and industrial colleges so that the young people of the country could receive a good education. In honor of Mokshagundam, a college was named after him in Karnataka. After that, two technical institutes of the same name were opened in Bangalore. In honor of this great engineer, the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum was established in Bangalore.

In 1885, Mokshagundam worked as an assistant engineer in Nashik, Khandesh, and Poona. He then took on the duties of Chief Engineer in many parts of the country. He then retired in 1909 from the British service. He then took over the duties of secretary and chief engineer of the Mysore government. In 1913 he became Deewan of Mysore.

In 1927-1955 he was appointed to the board of Tata Steel. People know Mokshagundam for the design and planning of the Jayanagar area south of Bengaluru. Jayanagar, which was designed entirely by Mokshagundam, is one of the best-planned developments in Asia.

How Engineers Day is celebrated?

In different cities, an engineer’s day is celebrated in different ways. Different departments of Engineering have different styles to celebrate. Celebration methods may also vary from one company to another. While government corporations follow the annual theme of engineering day, private companies can follow the theme or determine their own theme.

Engineers play a major role in the growth of a company. The way they celebrate this birthday does not matter. It is therefore important that they wait for the annual event to stay motivated and continue their excellent work for the general public.

Personal, family, career, a life of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya

Some people are born great. But the real great are those who achieve great things by working hard, having creative positive thinking or serving the nation.

It was hardly known that Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, born in Muddenhalli, Mysore, in the family of an ordinary Ayurvedic doctor, would one day be the pride not only of the South but of the whole country. He was born on September 15, 1861, and having lost his father at the age of fourteen, became more and more power to become the sixth Bharat Ratna in 1955.

He is one of the thirty-six bright stars of the national horizon, one of the Ten Radiant Sunshine, which received the highest national distinction because they were not a political figure, but dedicated their lives to constructive work – the pillars on which the nation supports.

The bright young boy graduated from Central College in Bangalore, where he stayed at his uncle’s house, but covered his tuition. He was so smart that the director asked him to teach mathematics to students. With all this work, 15 kilometers per day on foot, Visvesvaraya won the prize during her final exam, which earned her a scholarship from the Mysore State Government for the Pune Science College.

At the top of the list of successful candidates in civil engineering, he joined the public works department of Bombay in 1884 as an assistant engineer. Although the young engineer shared the national views of Tilak and Ranade, he decided to work honestly and conscientiously to improve the standard of living of the population.

As a civil engineer, Visvesvaraya has achieved some difficult projects. When he undertook two well-known projects to provide drinking water to Sukkur (Sindh) and Aden (South Yemen) via dirty beds and dirty channels of the Indus, he was appointed Kaiser-e- Hind by the British government.

He has been ingenious in building automatic gates on the Khadakvasla Dam and in building a series of canals and dams to relieve poor farmers. The humiliation of not being promoted chief engineer, a post reserved for the British, forced him to resign in 1908.

The last 55 years of Visvesvaraya, between 1909 and 1962, the date of his departure for his heavenly home, are a saga of great success. As Chief Engineer of the State of Mysore, he built the Kannambadi or Krishnaraja Sagar Dam in the city of Mysore and used the waters of the Kaveri River. It was the largest dam in India, completed in 1932.

It stores 48,000 cubic feet of water and generates 60,000 kW of electricity. Nobody visiting Mysore can forget the beautiful gardens of Brindavan and the musical fountain through which a stream flows from the dam to reach the river.

1912 saw him as Dewan (Prime Minister) of the state of Mysore. He worked with great commitment and campaigned for democratic tendencies in the state. Public opinion was important. He did not even get bored with the British and gave the press complete freedom.

In 1919, at the age of 58, he had disputes with the Maharajah, who wanted to gain political miles by giving reservations to certain communities to the detriment of efficiency. He quit. In 1918, he had already donated a number of organizations and projects to the state, including the Bank of Mysore, the Malnad Improvement Scheme, the University of Mysore, as well as the projects of Bhadrawathi Iron Works and from the Jog power station.

The latest successes of the former Dewan were the efforts made for the Hindustan Aircraft plant in Banglore and the Vizag Shipyard. But he played the role of a constructive adviser to the Indian government. The old man lived for his ideals and worked until the last moment of his life.

His idea was to “train to rust”. Mr. Aney pays tribute to the great soul – the duty of comfort is the ideal of Visvesvaraya. His quest for knowledge, his great patriotism, his attitude to work, his love of the poor and his health secret will forever inspire future generations.

Needless to say, it is always a great inspiration for everyone. Almost every engineer wants to follow in his footsteps and contribute to the development of India. To commemorate his significant contributions, the Indian people are celebrating engineers’ day.
