National Doctors Day:- In India, National Doctors’ Day is celebrated on July 1 all across India to honor the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on July 1, 1882, and died on the same date in 1962, aged 80 years.

National Doctors Day History and Why do we celebrate 1st July as Doctor’s Day?

In 1991, the Government of India established Doctor’s Day as National Doctor’s Day, which is celebrated on July 1st. This day is celebrated every year on the 1st of July to honor and pay tribute to the most famous Indian physician, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy (Dr. B C Roy), on the anniversary of his birth and death.

He was honored with the great Indian civil award called Bharat Ratna on the 4th of February in 1961. Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was born in Patna, Bihar on July 1, 1882. After graduating from Calcutta with a medical degree, he returned to India after obtaining his MRCP and FRCS degrees, where he began his medical career.

Later he became the Indian National Congress leader and then Chief Minister of West Bengal. He passed away on his birthday means the 1st of July in 1962, after 80 years of great service in this world. Behind his name, Dr. B. C. Roy National Award was instituted in the year 1976 to pay honor, respect, and tribute.
